Periodontal disease

Periodontal disease Gingivitis and periodontitis (or pyorrheas) are produced by bacteria found in the oral cavity, place where they find a favorable environment to develop. This ecosystem must be held in balance; otherwise bacteria could then be placed under the gums and affect their health.

Early diagnosis of periodontal disease is a key to healing. We can't forget that this disease develops without us even taking notice of it. It is fundamental that patients are aware of the different oral problems associated with this disease and how they can affect the oral cavity over time, and evidently, how to detect them.

It seldom begins to manifest with pain, which means that most of the patients don't take into account these multiple symptoms indicating that the gums and tissue of the teeth (periodontium) are unhealthy. Therefore, it is important to look carefully at the mouth looking for warning signs: bleeding, redness, diastema, bad breath or tooth hypersensitivity.

BleedingBleeding is the best evidence of infection or inflammation and it can lead to destructive activity in the oral cavity. In some cases, unhealthy gums don't bleed, as it happens with smokers due to their circulatory deficit, but the destruction progress persists.

RednessGum must be light pink color. Any changes to redness or darkening usually indicate inflammation and therefore, illness.

Diastema (Gap between teeth)

Diastema (Gap between teeth)Gap between teeth, either sudden or slow and progressive, may be a sign of periodontal disease.

HalitosisHalitosis is an unpleasant-smelling breath or bad taste in the mouth, often not even perceived by the individual himself. There are several possible reasons for bad breath, such as dental or periodontal problems caused by food particles left in between teeth and the accumulation of bacteria.

Dental hypersensitivity

Dental hypersensitivitySometimes, teeth exposed to banal stimulus such as fresh water, chocolate or just the contact with a metal may cause an uncomfortable feeling. It usually means that roots are unhealthy.

It is important to know about the existence of such disease and be aware of the symptoms so we can deal with the problem.

Tooth decay

Tooth decayIf your teeth or molars present visible holes or pits, even if you feel no pain, you must go to the dentist, you probably suffer from tooth decay. Tooth decay or caries may not hurt until it affects the pulp or nerve of the tooth.

Demineralization of the tooth surface. In these cases the best solution is a preventive treatment with fluoride.

Stuck bits of sugar between your teeth. The best way to solve this is controlling your diet and the food; how often you eat can be just as important as what you eat.

Plaque bacteria. To remove plaque bacteria you need to have proper oral hygiene.

Acidity. Salivation is the best solution and the best indicator of health, as it maintains balance in the mouth and teeth strong.
